Picking fantasy tight ends is tough so we went ahead and made it easy for you. We've poured over all the numbers and have laid out 5 tight ends that can help your team get that extra boost you need from an overlooked position. As always be sure to check out our sleepers who should be available in the later rounds of most fantasy drafts.
1. Antonio Gates - San Diego
Gates has been the gold standard for fantasy tight ends for a number of years. He puts up receiver numbers at a position that most fantasy owners don't expect much production at. Some say last year's injury issues were the signal of a start of decline for Gates but even a decline in his numbers still put him on the top of the fantasy tight end list.
2. Dallas Clark - Indianapolis
Dallas Clark spent the majority of last season on the IR and the Colts suffered for it. Manning couldn't seem to find a reliable go to receiver like he had in Clark. Expect him to bounce back from the injury and for Manning to make him a go to guy very early in the season.
3. Jason Witten - Dallas
Witten should return to previous form with the return of Romo to the Cowboys this summer. Witten was a favorite target of Romo's and last year's drop in stats showed. His numbers may not return to the levels of previous seasons but should be high enough for you to give me a good look in your draft
4. Vernon Davis - San Francisco
Davis has slowly been climbing his way into the ranks of top fantasy tight ends. Even with terrible quarterbacks throwing to him each season his numbers have steadily improved. Look for these numbers to increase again this season as he has being used more and more within the 49er's offensive scheme.
5. Jermichael Finley - Green Bay
Finley was a highly touted fantasy tight end last year but ended up missing most the season due to injury. This year should be no different; Finley is a big part of the Packers offense and expect him and Rodgers to get on the same page early this season.
Sleepers Brandon Pettigrew - Detroit
Pettigrew showed flashes of brilliance last season making key plays all over the field for Detroit. The problem is he was splitting time with another tight end; Tony Scheffler. If he can establish himself as the dominate tight end for the Lions and he gets some consistent quarterback play Pettigrew may give you a decent fantasy option for cheap.
Jimmy Graham - New Orleans
Graham is another developing tight end that started to find his niche in the New Orleans offense late into the season. If he develops into a reliable dump off for Brees he could start to see a lot of balls coming his way. You do still run into the problem of having to start a receiver on the Saints, a team that is notorious in the fantasy world for spreading the ball around
